Oldie but Goodie- Mobile Suit Gundam

Mobile Suit Gundam was first created in April 1979 it ran for under a year till January 1980. It ran 49 episodes and was the very first Gundam anime. Originally the show was going to have 52 episodes but was ended early because it was unpopular. Finally Bandi got the rights and started making model Gundams and the multiple spin offs and sequels.

Set in a fictional universe in the year 2079 (universal century year 0079 in the Gundam universe), the Principality of Zeon has declared independence fro the Earth Federation and subsequently launched a war of independence called the One Year War. The conflict has directly affected every continent of earth, also nearly every space colony and lunar settlement. Zeon, though small, has the tactical upper hand through their use of a new type of humanoid weapons called mobile suits. After half of all humanity is killed in the conflict, the war settled into a bitter stalemate lasting over eight months.
The story begins with a newly deployed Federation warship, White Base, arriving at the secret research base located at Side 7 colony to up the Federation's newest weapon. However, they are closely followed by Zeon forces. A Zeon reconnaissance team member disobeys mission order and attacks the colony, killing most of the Federation crew and civilians in the process. Out of desperation a citizen boy, Amuro Ray, accidentally finds the Federation's new arsenal, the RX-78 Gundam, and neutralizes the situation. Saving everything they can, White Base sets out with her newly formed crew of civilian recruits and refugees, mainly children and very young adults, in a journey to survive.
During their journey, White Base members often encounter the Zeon Lieutenant Commander Char Aznable. Although Char antagonizes Amuro in battle, he takes advantage of their position as Federation members to have them kill members from Zeon's Zabi family as part of his revenge scheme. Amuro also meets ensign Lalah Sune whom he falls in love and accidentally kills when facing Char. When the Federation Forces invade the Fortress of A Baoa Qu to defeat the Zeon forces, Amuro engages in a final one on one duel against Char due to their shared hatred for each other because Lalah's death. Having realized he forgot his true enemy, char stops fighting to kill the last surviving Zabi member, Kycillia Zabi. Amuro then reunites with his comrades as the war reaches its end.

First off as you all know I am making my own Gundam that is currently the bane of my existence and make me hate small things. But, I will finish that fucker. That does not effect how I feel about this anime.
The series still holds up did doesn't feel dated like Princess Knight. I has left an even bigger shadow then behind then any old show. Well maybe not as much as the Super Sentai, but it's close. To this day there are still new episodes, manga, games, models and series that are directly tied to this series. If that is not a legacy I don't know what is.
I like this series, it has the right amount of lose that will hurt and the right amount of gain that will make it alright. The characters are devolved and none are similar. Every single one is different. Also, the episodes are not episodic they carry the plot along.
The main thing that I like about this series is people die. They die they stay dead. Their death effects those around them and it's not forgotten then next episode, like so many other shows, not just anime. Also, the death is fast. No one takes a whole episode to die. People die with in ten seconds just like real war. One minute your friend is right next to you then next you can't even take his body back with you, because there is no body left.
I just have one thing to say, watch this show. Watch it before any other Gundam, reading, watching making, any other Gundam. It is real with a sci-fi aspect to it and it's worth all 49 episodes.
Next week I'll do Space Battleship Yamato.
~^.^
