A Look at Manga-Chobits

Chobits was created by the manga group Clamp. It was published in 2000 and ran for two years till 2002. The story is about Hideki Motosuwa, who finds an abandoned persocom, personal computer in human form. He names it Chi, since that is all it says at first. As the series continues, they explore the mysteries of Chi's origins together and questions about the relationships between humans and computers.
Alright, the first thing I want to say is Clamp is a group of woman that may be more then a little perverted. Reason number one, Chi's on switch is right were her va-ja-ja would be if she was human and it even comes up that some people have sex with there persocoms. Reason number two, Chi is naked for the first part of the series or has her boobs falling out for the rest of the series. Reason number three, I don't know if this goes under pervs but, there is a twelve year old who falls in love with an adult persocom (who he made) and no one bats an eye. Reason four, Chi's boobs get squeezed more times in these 88 chapters then mine do with in a week, maybe even a month.
Now that we've passed that point on to the next one, it's still about Clamp. Now I've seen this in other Clamp work not just this one. Were there is a relationship between two people and it is not restricted by age. Now I'm all for you love who you love, but some of the relationships are ridiculous. In Chobits there is a 12 year old who falls in love with his persocom. The persocom is in the form of an adult. That's a little weird, first a 12 year old isn't mature enough to understand love in all of it's shapes and forms and may mistake one form of love of an other. Next we have the main characters who are a college student, Hideki and a persocom, Chi, who looks like she is 12. Now I know that physical appearance for persocoms mean nothing to how old they actually are or how behave. But, Chi acts like a toddler and then matures into a very young child. She wants to find "the person just for her" which I'm all for, but she is a very young child, a very young child. That should not be thinking about finding the person to spend the rest of her life with. This is like Card Captures Sakura, the main characters are in elementary school and no they do not understand love yet, do not make them fall in love with each other Clamp. Also, an elementary school student and her teacher no matter how you cut it or look at it that is just, no.
Moving on from the questionable content of the relationships of Clamps work or in Chobits, this manga is an easy read. With 88 chapters none of the chapters are over 15 pages so you can breeze through them in an afternoon, like I did. It's also easy to read with more pictures then words unlike a manga like Death Note, that is the manga of talking heads and word bubbles.
I really do like the idea of the manga. You need to find the person that you are meant to be with and you shouldn't be restricted by age, gender, or race (persocom=race, maybe?). If you love some one you love them. I like that idea, now you need more then love to be with some one but it sure does help. It helps a lot.
I also really like all of the girls outfits in Chobits. Chi's are of course the cutest but all of the girls in this series get to wear supper cute clothes. Clamp does always dress their charters nicely. They do better with the girls, but they are an all female writers group.
I recommend this manga to any one who likes a cute love story and cute clothes, but there are some questionable relationships with the story. I will just chock it up to fictional story and artistic licence and leave it at that.
Next week I'll be reading Inuyasha.
