Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma Episode 14 Review

Metamorphosis

Erina is still being high and mighty. Yes, she is a great cook, mainly because of her "god tongue", but she shouldn't look down on Soma. Just because his back ground in is a dinner type restaurant and his cooking is completely different then anything she has ever tasted does not mean he's a bad cook. Also, the continuing of using this beat, Soma's cooking is lower because of his background, is just over used. It is understandable that people would think that, but he keeps proving him self over and over. It's a poor plot device to keep going back to and the wish is that the writers will go away from that soon. Because, it's getting old and over used. Alice does it again in this episode as well and again it just keeps getting older and older.
Even though Soma realizes that he messed up he doesn't let him self get down. He tries to figure out what he can do to fix his mistake so that he can survive the challenge. Once he figures out what to do he does it with out hesitation. The main reason he is able to survive is that he has experience in cooking for a lot of people at a very fast rate. Every time he makes an other batch he becomes faster and stream lines the process even more. Even though we as the audience know Soma can't be expelled, he's the main character, this is the first time that we see him sweat and actually be in trouble in the competition and school. Also, the main reason he is such a good cook is that he doesn't let things bother him. All he wants is to get better and be the best. He will do what ever it takes to do that.
In the end, even though the teachers are hard on the students they aren't evil. They want them to succeed and if that means all of them stay or all of them leave they know that the best are left. But, they understand that they must also reward the ones who are left. They see the future in the students are looking forward to seeing what the students make of them selves. Also, Soma is starting to realize that this school may be more then just a stepping stone in his life.
