Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma Episode 11 Review

The Magician From the East

Starting were the last episode left off, Soma just callenged Kijiro to a shokugeki. Kijiro declines the shokugeki, but Gin, who was watching, says there there will be an unofficial shokugeki after the day's activities are over. Megumi is upset at Soma for risking everything for her. He say that it isn't time for her to leave yet. The rest of the members of Polar Star wonder where Megumi and Soma are. Since none of them have seen them since the morning.
Donato Gatodu, Sekimori Hitoshi, and Mizuhoru fuyumi act as judges for the unofficial shokugeki. Inui has been put in the corner by Gin, acting only as an observer since she it is believed that she would be biased.
Gin then tells Soma and Megumi that Megumi will be the head chef and Soma will be the sue chef. Soma starts to argue but Gin simply states that Megumi must be able to stand on her own or she will just be expelled some other day. Soma can't always save her.
At first, Megumi is very nervous and can't concentrate but Soma snaps her out of it and tells her to take her time figuring out what to cook. Kijiro keeps saying she's a half wit. Soma comes to her defense say that he needs to see her cook before he makes any judgement. Megumi figures out what to cook after a she has a memory of when she was young.
As they cook, Soma is the perfect sue chef doing every thing the Megumi need right before she needs it. Kijiro presents first, he makes a Chou Farci, a dish normally made in french homes.
All of the judges love it, including Inui. After they eat they "become" Cabbage Blue, ed and Pink. Forming Magic Cabbage.
After the credits Megumi prepares to serve her dish. She is teriffed but Soma reassures her. Her plate bursts into a rainbow, she has made a terrine.

I like that they had more cooking in this episode, since that is the main reason that I watch the show. I love how they explain how they cooked the certain dish. Instead of just being like this is the dish I made the end. I do have to roll my eyes every time they show how the dish made the person feel. It goes way to over the top. I mean really Magic Cabbage. That whole scene took about five minutes. It's like when ever the sailor scouts do a transformation in Sailor Moon, there goes the next 10 to 15 minutes of my life as they say who they are for the hundredth time.
I did really like that Megumi had to stand on her own. She wasn't alone but she was the lead. If she couldn't do it then we would know. The fact the Soma isn't just going to save her like so many other shonen manga and anime is nice. If she has no skills or can not shine with out  him we will find out. But, I have a feeling that she will prosper and be fine on her own. I'm just glad that, that is the way the show went instead of just falling into the normal pattern. But, this show is anything but normal.
Also, Inui is so cute. I like that she is just sweet even when she is failing students. I really like that Gin and Kijiro keep her in the corner and even threaten to gag her if she won't stop talking because she likes Megumi and Soma so much.
~^.^
